Coker Food Pantry & Outreach Opportunities

Thursdays | Coker Methodist Church has the second largest food pantry in the city of San Antonio. We serve 350 families every Thursday (except of Thanksgiving.) The Thursday before Thanksgiving, we serve up to 500 families. Every Thursday distribution includes a large amount of food, produce, dairy, meat, and canned goods. Volunteer hours are: Thursday from 9am-2pm. We need cart pushers, produce baggers, registration (Spanish speakers needed, and parking lot attendants. There are different jobs for people of various needs and skill sets. Not all positions require standing for long periods of time. We will provide water, Gatorade, and snacks. For more information please contact: Shirley Reid 210-771-0001, Linda and Terry Baker 210-364-4658,

Mission Wednesday | Do you want to serve on Wednesday? Two of the bags that we give out to those who receive from the food pantry on Thursdays are called A and B bags. In those bags we have food like: rice, beans, peanut butter, canned good, and other non perishable items. On the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30pm-7:30pm we will bag the A & B bags. We work as an assembly line of sorts to bag the foods. You will be standing during the packing of bags. Water is provided.

Cafecito En la Calle | Join us on the 3rd Wednesday every other month from 7am-9am for Cafecito. We set up a table with a Coker sign and pass out coffee, donuts, and pray for strangers at the bus station near North Star mall. Why? Because this is the simplest and rawest way (we as a church) can show love to our community. We never know what to expect, other than for Holy Spirit to move! Sign up by contacting Lindsey Brady 210-863-6383, OR Pastor Jose Mercado 816-752-2476,

All Church Serve days | Have you ever felt like you wanted to serve the Lord along side your family? All Church Serve days are where it is at! Two Sundays a year, we plan on staying after the 11am service and completing a project for the Lord. These days consist of stations: building something, putting together bags for the homeless, or packing food boxes for those in need. There will be food and drinks available for all who attend.

5th Sunday is our Family Serve Day | Whether you have kiddos or not, we are a church family looking to serve together in welcoming, ushering, reading scripture, and serving an outside organization on our campus. Serve Dates: October 29th and April 7th. We will need help with set up/tear down and station leaders.

Las Posadas | Celebrated in some Latino Cultures, Las Posadas signifies Joseph and Mary’s journey from Bethlehem to Nazareth in search of a place for Baby Jesus to be born. A main component of this celebration is asking for a “posada” or a place to rest, which is done via singing and worship at the church sanctuary. During the celebration we fellowship with food, hot chocolate, a visit from Santa, and a piñata. Volunteer opportunities: Set up/ tear down crew, food servers, photo booth attendant and welcome volunteers. Please contact Pastor Jose Mercado 816-752-2476, OR Lindsey Brady, 210-863-6383, for more information.

Dinner Church | Dinner Church is a bilingual event located at Las Chiladas Restaurant. The event includes a potluck meal, musical worship, testimony and communion.
