Faith-Filled Beginnings: Exploring Coker’s Early Learning Center in San Antonio

More Than a Preschool—A Place to Grow in Faith and Confidence

Choosing the right early learning environment is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. At Coker Methodist Church’s Early Learning Center (CELC), we understand this responsibility and walk alongside families to nurture each child’s unique growth journey—from infancy through Kindergarten.

Located 14630 Wurzbach Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78216, our center offers a full developmental path for children starting at 12 months and continuing through a specially designed Kindergarten class. Every step of the way, we prioritize faith, compassion, and age-appropriate learning in a safe and joyful atmosphere.

Classes That Grow With Your Child

Coker’s Early Learning Center offers:

  • Infant and Toddler Classes (12–35 months)
  • Preschool (ages 3 and 4)
  • Gift of Time – For Kindergarten-aged children who benefit from an additional year of growth
  • Kindergarten – Designed to fully prepare students for first grade

Each classroom is intentionally staffed and structured to meet the developmental needs of that age group. Children engage in play-based learning, spiritual development, and social-emotional growth that lays the foundation for lifelong success.

The Role of Faith in Early Education

At Coker, we believe that spiritual development is just as important as academic readiness. Through daily prayer, Bible stories, songs, and Christ-like guidance from teachers, children come to know they are loved deeply by God.

This faith foundation shows up in everyday moments—in how we treat each other, in how we respond to challenges, and in how children learn to care for their classmates. It’s not just what we teach, but how we teach it.

Spotlight on “The Gift of Time” Class

One of Coker ELC’s standout offerings is the Gift of Time class—a program designed specifically for children who are Kindergarten-aged but may not be quite ready to transition to a traditional Kindergarten setting.

This spiritually based, academically rich class gives students one more year to strengthen their confidence, refine early reading and math skills, and continue developing socially and emotionally in a nurturing environment. With small class sizes and individualized attention, children in the Gift of Time program build a strong foundation for success in formal schooling.

Kindergarten with Heart and Purpose

In addition to Gift of Time, Coker also offers a full Kindergarten class for students ready to step into the next chapter of their educational journey. Our Kindergarten curriculum meets and exceeds academic standards while integrating Christian values and character development.

Small class sizes, loving teachers, and enrichment opportunities make it an ideal bridge between early learning and elementary school. Students leave confident, prepared, and rooted in God’s love.

A Day in the Life at Coker ELC

From joyful hellos to reflective quiet time, every day at Coker ELC is structured around rhythms that help children feel safe and seen. A typical day includes:

  • Circle time with stories, songs, and Scripture
  • Hands-on learning centers (math, science, art, literacy)
  • Outdoor exploration and gross motor play
  • Snack time, rest time, and free play
  • Prayer and moments of gratitude

Children are guided by experienced educators who value both structure and spontaneity, encouraging curiosity while maintaining calm, loving boundaries.
