The Plan

A Plan to Grow in Jesus

At Coker, we have a place for you to belong and a plan to grow in Jesus. If you are new to Coker, please visit Coker.org/Events and plan to attend our next Connecting at Coker to learn more about how you can get connected here. If you are connected, and looking for an intentional way to grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus and with other believers- The Plan is for you.

“The Plan” is a discipleship program offered here at Coker Methodist Church for those who desire a deeper, more challenging, and intentional walk of faith with Jesus Christ. This is a three-year program, with each year centered around traditionally practiced spiritual disciplines that have been studied and lived over the centuries. Think of spiritual disciplines as an accountability measure in your faith walk. If you are seeking to lead a healthy lifestyle then you may set up a way to log your food intake, to join in community with others who are working out, etc. In a similar fashion, spiritual disciplines help us walk closer with Jesus. These are not a checklist for salvation, salvation is offered through the grace of Christ alone. These are a way to slow and steady ourselves to focus on Jesus and on community.

Each year offers a new focus:

The Plan Year 1

Year One

focuses on three major areas: Biblical understanding through a Wesleyan lens, a life guided by and lived out by the Holy Spirit, and reaching outside our own personal faith development in both witness and service.

Year Two

uses Emotionally Healthy Discipleship, by Rev. Peter Scazzero, to deepen and mature our spirituality and relationships under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

The Plan - Year 3

Year Three

is renewing John Wesley’s creation of small group fellowship in Class Meetings and Bands, in order to create a means of accountability and spiritual growth while holding one another up in prayer and love. You will also create a “rule of life” modeled in the way of Benedict, to help you find your current strengths and growth areas for further faith development.

The Plan must be taken in the order described above and each year a new class will be offered for each. Classes are limited to a maximum of 25 people and always start in September and end in May.
