In this world 1/3 of young adults claim to have no faith in the church or in Jesus, at Coker we feel called to reach children to share the beautiful hope that comes in knowing Jesus so that when they are young adults and beyond, they have faith to hold on to. This summer, we welcomed approximately 250 children on to the Coker campus where we hosted Vacation Bible School and Sports Camp. The children learned the timeless message that, while life can be uncertain and unpredictable, God is always good and can always be trusted. Upon completion of Vacation Bible School on our own campus, Mrs. Cheryl, Mrs. Wendy, Mrs. Valerie, and many others packed up the Vacation Bible School message & supplies and headed to our sister church, Emanuel UMC.
Emanuel UMC is located on the west side of San Antonio and is very near to the 78207 zip code which has been named as one of the lowest income zip codes in San Antonio. Emanuel UMC opened their doors, the staff and volunteers of Coker opened our arms, and it was a wonderful day for all. In this picture, Mrs. Cheryl had us all stand in a circle and pray out loud as we felt led to do so by the Holy Spirit.
In order to deepen our connection with one another, Mrs. Cheryl had us make eye contact while praying which led us into more a more authentic community, centered on the love and promises from God, through his son Jesus Christ.
