For many years, the Rio Texas Conference and Coker UMC have been proud partners with the literacy program through Project Transformation. This year, more than ever, we need to spend extra one-on-one time with the leaders-of-tomorrow, ensuring their academic success through reading.

There are several ways YOU can volunteer with Project Transformation, and can do so from a safe distance while we are easing out of the shelter-in-place mandates.

Ways to Volunteer:

1. DUE BY MAY 27th…Donate “summer camps in a bag.” Purchase items from the school supply list, assemble the kit, and be prepared to drop the kit(s) off by May 27th. Note, you can also make a monetary donation online at coker.org/donate under the “General Fund” and make a note that it is for Project Transformation. Note that supplies are roughly $65/student for the summer.

2. Pray with Prayer Guides as a Prayer Partner

3. Be a Pen Pal… Write a note each week to a student and include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, so the student can write back. This will serve to create relationship and to work on literacy skills. Note all ages can volunteer to be Pen Pals (So this is a great way to involve the entire family).

4. Be a Reading Buddy… Read one-to-one with a Project Transformation student on an interactive platform such as Zoom. Students will have the books they received when they picked up their weekly food and supply kits.

Food Donations In addition to school supplies, students will be receiving food weekly. If you would like to make a monetary donation towards food, you can do so at Coker.org/Donate, select the “General Fund.”
