Planting the Seeds of Christian Love

The vision of Children’s Ministries is to plant the seeds of Christian love, to offer ways of nurturing children to grow, not only physical but spiritually. We want children to know God loves them and that they can have fun as they discover His love. Watching the seeds grow in the children is an amazing journey!

Coker Kids provides many opportunities for children, nursery – 5th grade, and their families to grow in their faith journey.

Sunday Schedule

Nursery is available for all worship services ages 3 months – 5 years

Kids’ Sunday School classes are held in the upstairs Rector building from 9:30 – 10:40 am. Elementary aged kids will gather together in our Commons/Worship area for a greeting and light snack. After a short Bible story video, they will be dismissed to their classrooms for age-appropriate activities designed to enhance the Bible lessons.

  •  Kindergarten, in room 607
  •  1st & 2nd grade, in room 608
  •  3rd & 4th grade, in room 601
  •  5th grade, in room 603

Our 3 and 4 year olds, attend a Montessori-style lesson called Godly Play. They meet in room 606 as soon as they arrive.

Parents are encouraged to gather in our Commons area while they wait for classes to finish up, and kids will be dismissed directly to you.

Our Kids’ Worship event takes place during our 11:00 am worship services on every Sunday of the month except the first Sunday when Communion is served. After our Pastor dismisses them from Children’s Time, kids may choose to stay and worship with their families, or they may join us for a fun, musical service held in Gym, room 402. Parents should sign-up their kids at the podium in the back of the Sanctuary so the kids can be taken to the Kids’ Worship service by our Worship volunteers and staff. Please pick your kids up when services end at Noon.

The nursery ministry serves children 3 months-kindergarten during all Sunday church worship services. For special events, we serve children ages 3 months -5th grade. While children are in the nursery, they are led in Bible-centered and age-appropriate Bible lessons.

As a courtesy, we furnish wipes and snacks, including goldfish crackers and water. Any allergies or preferences are noted on our registration cards filled out by the parents or caregivers. Our nursery staff is trained in First Aid and CPR, as well as the Child, Youth and Vulnerable Adult Safety Policy of Coker UMC.

Children’s Choir (Kindergarten – 5th grade)

Rehearsals: Wednesdays 5:30-6:00pm in the choir room. Children’s Choir is an opportunity for children to sing joyous praises to God. We work hard learning music, but have great fun with our friends while doing so. Children’s Choir sings in worship once a month. For more information contact Director: Valerie Thompson, vthompson_sing@satx.rr.com

Volunteers

On June 9, 2018, a new Child, Youth, and Vulnerable Adult safety policy and accompanying procedures went into effect for ALL Rio Texas Churches (including Coker UMC). Every adult who works with children, youth, and/or vulnerable adults (Staff, Volunteer, Clergy, or Lay) must be certified through the new TRUSTed con Confianza certification process. This includes, but not limited to, those who volunteer with the food pantry, Eagle Pass, ERT, mission trips etc.  If you fall into any of these categories please contact Cheryl Kendall,cheryl.kendall@coker.org for more information to get trained.
