Healing Ministry

The Healing Ministry at Coker offers support through Christian healing worship services and through the prayer shawl ministry.

Worship Services...
The 2013 service schedule: March 25, May 20, September 9 and Dec 2 at 7:00 PM in Coker Chapel
Christian healing services include communion, anointing with oil, intercessory prayer teams, a community of faithful, and soft music in a prayerful setting where you may discover God’s presence in your life.  The service is a time of contemplation, communion, consolation, re-commitment, coping, courage and confidence in God.  This kind of healing integrates serenity and action, a search for wholeness, meaning, courage and strength, as God binds our yearning hearts.  You are invited to participate, observe, sing or receive prayers for healing of any kind—body, mind, spirit, emotions, relationships.  People of faith come from all over the city to meditate and to pray for others.  The service lasts about an hour in Coker’s historic rock chapel.  Contact Rev. Damon Relder at 494-3455x226 or Raynel Lockard at 658-7958.

Prayer Shawls... Shawls have been made for centuries and provide warmth and comfort to the wearer. The Prayer Shawl Ministry was created by two women from Connecticut as a final project in their study at the Women’s Leadership Institute in Hartford, CT. Weaving healing prayers into the fabric of the shawls has resulted in many new ministries that reach out to those in need of comfort all over the United States and other countries.

Our Prayer Shawl ministry at Coker UMC has given shawls as a comfort during illness, recovery, and at a time of loss or a time of joy.

A note is enclosed with each shawl that is given. The note offers an appropriate prayer and explains the reason for the gift. It is signed with the name – Coker United Methodist Church Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Intercessory Prayer

Intercession is a way of loving others. When we move from petition to intercession we are shifting our center from our own needs to the needs and concerns of others.
